Scholarships are awarded based on the student's interest in the marine engineering field and in particular their career, their activities, and their interest in continuing the profession.
CIMarE Scholarship - Vancouver Branch
The Vancouver Branch – CIMarE Scholarship is awarded each year to BCIT Marine Engineering Students. Two awards of $500 each to first year students and one $1000 award to a second or third year student. Applications, from BCIT Marine Campus, are due April 1st and are awarded later in April.
Applicants should be:
Canadian citizens or Landed Immigrants enrolled and studying at the BCIT Marine Campus at the time of application and granting of the awards.
Within six months of receiving the awards, the recipients will make a brief presentation to Vancouver Branch members at a regular Monthly meeting (likely October) highlighting their experience and the benefits of the award to them.
Information and applications forms will be available at the November meeting and from CIMarE Vancouver Branch Directors and BCIT staff any time thereafter.
Denis Cressey Marine Engineering Scholarship
The trustees of the "Denis Cressey Marine Engineering Scholarship Trust" are again seeking applications for the annual awards of:
- One $2,000 cheque for a student in any year of marine engineering
- One $500 cheque for a student in first year of marine engineering
There is no formal application, candidates must submit as a minimum:
- Career objectives
- Employment background
- Education history and proof of marks
The successful candidate is required to write to the Trustees after one year, to inform them of their progress and how the award was used.
Applicants are required to be:
- Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
- Studying or employed (while going to school) in the field of marine engineering in Canada
Applications need to be delivered before April 5th.

The awards will be presented April 17 at CIMarE (Vancouver Branch) monthly meeting. The successful candidates will be required to attend the meeting. If they are not able to attend because of job commitments or location, the cheques will be mailed out.
